CHAPTER XIII. STREETS AND SIDEWALKSCHAPTER XIII. STREETS AND SIDEWALKS\ARTICLE 5. HOUSE NUMBERING

All persons occupying or having control of any house or houses fronting or facing any of the streets or public avenues of the city are hereby required to number the same in conformity to the provisions of this article.

For the purpose of this article, the city is hereby divided into a north and south side and Main Street is hereby declared to be the dividing line. The city is further divided into an east and west side, and Mill Street shall be the west boundary line of the east side, and Depot Street the east boundary line of the west side. The number to be given any house or building fronting on any street running north and south shall be ascertained by commencing at the Main Street with number one hundred (100) and numbering thence north and south allowing one hundred (100) numbers for each block or fraction thereof, placing even numbers on the west side and odd numbers on the corresponding east side. The number to be given any house situated in the east side and fronting on any street running east and west shall be ascertained by Commencing on Mill Street with number one hundred (100) and numbering thence east allowing one hundred (100) numbers for each block, or fraction thereof, placing even numbers on the north side of the street and odd numbers on the south side. The number to be given any house on the west side and fronting any street running east and west shall be ascertained by commencing on Depot Street with number one hundred (100) and numbering thence westward, allowing one hundred (100) numbers for each block or fraction thereof, placing even numbers on the north side of the street and odd numbers on the south side thereof. For the purpose of the aforesaid numbering so much of every block as fronts on any street or avenue in the city shall be treated as divided into twenty-five (25) foot spaces or lots, or fraction thereof when necessary, and to each of the twenty-five (25) foot spaces or lots shall be given an appropriate number.

The figures of each number shall be not less than two (2) inches in height and shall be legible and conspicuously placed on the front of each house or building. Every house or building which may hereafter be erected facing or fronting on any of the streets or avenues of the city shall be numbered by the owner, occupant or agent of the owner as provided in this article within thirty (30) days after the same shall have been completed.
